NCAA ELIGIBLITY CENTER

Given the unprecedented events during Spring/Summer 2020 due to COVID-19, the NCAA Eligibility Center has partnered with the NCAA membership to identify the adjustments to the initial-eligibility certification process. These changes may not capture all unique scenarios; however, NCAA Customer Service is available to assist with questions Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, at 877-262-1492 (domestic students and Canadian students outside of Quebec) and, for international students including Quebec, at ncaa.org/contactinternationalClick here to learn more about these important adjustments.

BENEVOLENT FUND

The WBCA anticipates an increase in applications for financial assistance to the WBCA Benevolent Fund as the economic impact on the women’s and girls’ basketball coaching profession worsens. If you are in a position to give to the fund, please do so today so that the association has the means to help your peers in need. Donations are 100-percent tax deductible. Click here to give today.

REFUNDS

  • Convention fees. The WBCA staff has issued refunds of convention registration fees to every registrant who requested one by the Friday, April 3, deadline. Refunds were credited to the card used to pay the registration fee. Refund checks have been mailed to those who paid by check. Requests for refunds are no longer being accepted.
  • Hotels. Everyone who reserved rooms at the New Orleans Marriott or the Wyndham New Orleans French Quarter should have received a full refund of your three-night deposit credited to the card used to hold the room. If you have not yet received your refund, please contact the hotel directly. Email Daniella Trujillo, WBCA manager of events, if the hotel is unable to assist you.
  • Women’s Final Four tickets. The WBCA has refunded everyone who purchased Women’s Final Four tickets directly from the association. The NCAA is processing refunds for tickets purchased through their online ticket seller. All refunds are automatic, will be credited back to the card used to make the purchase, and should be completed by April 30.

UPDATES THIS WEEK TO THE WBCA CORONAVIRUS PAGE

NCAA Division I

  • Council Coordination Committee Actions Related to the Impact of COVID-19 on Countable Athletically Related Activities. The NCAA Division I Council Coordination Committee took the actions noted below related to the impact of COVID-19 on countable athletically related activities. These actions are effective April 20, 2020. The Coordination Committee will evaluate the application of the waiver provisions during a teleconference in mid-May to determine whether they should be extended or other action should be taken.
    • The Coordination Committee confirmed that, because all sports are considered to be out of season, countable athletically related activities are prohibited from one week before the start of the institution’s final examination period for the applicable academic term through the conclusion of the institution’s academic term. The Coordination Committee adopted emergency temporary legislation to apply the same standard in football.
    • The Coordination Committee approved a waiver to permit, through May 31 [except as prohibited in (a) above], all sports to require up to eight hours per week of virtual nonphysical countable activities (e.g., film review, chalk talk, team meetings) and, for each sport, to require an institution to provide student-athletes at least one day off per week (rather than the legislated requirement of two days off per week outside of the season). In football, this waiver applies regardless of whether this period includes weeks designated as student-athlete discretionary time. **4.16.20**

NCAA Division II

NCAA Division III

  • Outside Competition During Permissible Break Periods. The NCAA Division III Legislation and Interpretations Committee confirmed that a student-athlete may participate in outside competition during any week that is not part of the institution's defined playing season or part of preparation for a postseason championship (e.g., NCAA, NAIA, NCCAA). **4.17.20**
